Smoke, Carbon Monoxide Detectors and Fire Alarm Systems

Smoke Detectors

Every 24 seconds, a fire department in the United States responds to a fire. While this is down 2% from 2016, it totaled 1,319,500 fires in 2017 leading to 10,600 lives lost and an estimated $23 billion in property damages. Install fire alarm systems in your home.

Working smoke alarms are critical to preventing fire-related deaths. Three out of five home fire deaths result from fires in properties without working smoke detectors, and 38 percent of deaths occurred in fires where no smoke detector was present at all. The association says the risk of dying in a fire is cut in half in homes with working smoke detectors.

In fires in which the smoke alarms were present but did not operate, almost half (46%) of the smoke alarms had missing or disconnected batteries. Almost one quarter of smoke alarm failures were due to dead batteries.

Seacoast Security installs smoke and fire detectors as part of its monitoring systems. The detectors are wired to a main control panel, which also has a battery backup. When an alarm activates, we will call your home or business, and if no one answers or is home, the local fire department is called.

Our technicians can install, test and inspect your smoke alarms to make sure they are working properly and are up to date.

Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas and it is extremely difficult to detect. Carbon monoxide can cause sickness, coma, or death when it accumulates in enclosed spaces.

In addition to fire alarms and smoke detectors, our technicians also install carbon monoxide detectors in homes and businesses. Seacoast Security provides carbon monoxide monitoring services to keep you, your family or your employees safe from harm.

Maine state law requires carbon monoxide detectors in each unit of multi-family dwellings and also requires that they be included in any new construction of single-family homes, hotels, motels and college residences such as dorms, sorority and fraternity houses. Contact us for more information about these systems and the regulations that must be met upon installation.
